There's a push to allow cameras and live streams in New York courtrooms ahead of a potential criminal trial of former president Donald Trump.

Democratic state lawmakers are sponsoring a bill that would allow trial proceedings to be recorded and streamed live but still gives judges power to ban video and audio.

Right now only audio and visual recordings are allowed if a judge gives special permission.

Senator Brad Hoylman, a sponsor of the bill, says the public has the right to witness this moment in history, when referring to Trump possibly going on trial in Lower Manhattan.
