Mom Wins $2M After Using Life Savings On Daughter’s Cancer Treatment

Geraldine Gimblet of Lakeland, Florida, spent her life savings paying for her daughter’s breast cancer treatment. On the day after her daughter received the news that she was cancer-free, Gimblet visited a South Lakeland gas station and bought a $10 Florida Lottery $2-Million Bonus Cashword scratch-off and soon discovered that she’d won the game’s top prize.

But she almost didn’t get the ticket at all. "At first the gas station clerk thought there were no tickets left, but I asked him to double check because I like the crossword games the best,” Gimblet recalls. “He found the last one!"

On April 7th, Gimblet and her family traveled to Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to collect her winnings. The lucky lady chose to receive her money as a lump-sum payment of over $1.6-million.
