WATCH: Woman Lives In Underground Bunker To Save Money On Rent

A woman has been living in an underground bomb shelter in California for just over two weeks in an effort to save money.

The 1,100-square-foot bunker provides “Caitlin J” with affordable rent, free utilities, and excellent sleep quality, though it has required some adjustments like using a daylight lamp to keep track of time.

While many of Caitlin's TikTok followers express concerns about the potential risks of living underground, she says she feels safe and secure in her temporary subterranean abode as she works towards her goal of above-ground homeownership.

Bunkers have seen a surge in interest this year, with some desperate house hunters like Caitlin seeing them as a way to survive and wait out the current high-priced housing market. As the housing market remains a challenge, some prospective homebuyers are exploring creative living arrangements, like Caitlin’s $500-per-month rental.
