Middle School Student Takes School Bus Wheel When Driver Passes Out

Last week, Acie Holland III, an eighth-grader from Glen Hills Middle School in Wisconsin, prevented a potential tragedy by taking control of his school bus when the driver lost consciousness behind the wheel. His actions were praised by the school principal, Anna Young, who commended his leadership during the incident.

During the ride home last Wednesday afternoon, Acie was looking at his phone when he noticed the bus was speeding up and passed his stop. He looked up to see the bus driver slumped in her seat and acted quickly to take control of the situation. The 14-year-old rushed to the front of the bus, moved the driver's foot from the gas pedal, applied the brakes, and safely parked the bus, preventing any harm to the students onboard.

Acie's quick thinking and calm response were credited with ensuring the safety of the students onboard the bus. Despite the intense situation, he remained composed and even sought help from his grandmother, a nurse, for the driver until first responders arrived. The Glendale-River Hills School District recognized Acie's bravery, hailing him as a hero for his actions. For his part, the teen says that the experience has boosted his confidence and he feels good knowing that he saved people.
